Cultivating your authentic self is easy and effective. When I say easy, I mean easy as in everyone can do it. I’m not saying it’s not time-consuming and you don’t have to think, but everyone can do it, you just need to put in the work.
Being in tune with your authentic self allows every other area of your life to fall into place. It also lets you see your real potential. Ever feel stuck in life? This could be a sign that you aren’t connected with your authentic self. There are so many external factors that may have influenced us to think and act in a certain way, and that’s why it’s so important to do this work. Here are my 5 tips for finding your true authenticity.
You can’t connect with others or even yourself until you are undistracted and present. The best way to be present is to meditate. We live in a world filled with constant distractions. Smartphones and social media has proved we like to stay connected 24/7, but what about connecting with yourself? Surely you can’t do that looking at someone else’s Instagram.
Take time to sit and breathe to quiet the mind. If you struggle to stay still, there are many resources to help assist you like Headspace. When the mind is quiet, you start to take notice of your thoughts. When you begin to notice your thoughts, you’ll notice how they pass over like clouds. You are essentially training your mind to let go of unnecessary thoughts. You’ll start to take notice of what thoughts are true and not. It’s so important to take note of the things you tell yourself so you can see if you need to be kinder to yourself.
Meditation elevates compassion, self-love, creativity, and happiness while lowering stress and judgment. Sounds like a great way to live, huh?
2.Explore nature alone
One of the best ways to get in touch with yourself is to be out in nature. There’s something about being outdoors that really harmonizes the mind and soul. I spend just about every morning keeping my phone at home and taking a hike. This is my daily scheduled me-time, and it has become absolutely critical in keeping me sane through the constant buzz of work and life.
Schedule time out of your schedule every week to explore new places alone. Take notice of the beauty the world offers and really breathe in it. Take time to self-reflect. Don’t forget to bring water to stay hydrated and a journal to write about your experience.
Writing things down is such a powerful practice. After you self-reflect, write down what you want to be doing with your life. What do you want in life? What are your goals? Once you write these down, read them and ask yourself what’s blocking you from achieving these goals. Most times, people feel like they are stuck in life and not sure how to fix it. This is mainly because people aren’t asking themselves what they want.
After you reflect on what you want your life to be, see if you can get there by doing what you’re doing currently? If not, it’s time to make a change! This takes courage as most people settle in life to be comfortable. It’s important to know if you want to be your true, authentic self, you’re going to have to let go of fear.
Our bodies are designed to move, and it’s part of the healing process. Do some research and find a work out that speaks to you. Maybe it’s a hip hop dance class or a calming hot yoga class. Whatever it is you choose, make sure you stick with it. Having a routine work out routine is vital to stay energized and keep our endorphins running. I find when I take a few weeks off of exercising, my mind starts to get fuzzy and I don’t feel my best.
If you follow me on social media, you’ll know I spend a lot of time outdoors exercising. I also love going to soul cycle with other members of the hint team! If you are new to working out, invite a friend. Encourage one another to get out and move our bodies; it’s so needed.
5.Trust your gut
We’ve all been told to “trust our gut” and “follow our instinct.” But how do we actually know we hear our intuition? Amping up intuition requires self-trust, you need to believe in yourself and acting on your intuition proves that you do. Think of your emotions, physical sensations, and feelings as your inner compass. If you pay attention, those sensations will guide you in the right direction.
Dedicating time to practice these exercises will create more happiness and fulfillment in your life. When you are living your true, authentic self, great things start to fall into place. It’s time to face your fears and start your journey on figuring out who you really are.
